I agree that we should see if we can solve problems with the present facility by using a regional/shared facility, and save tax dollars for other purposes.

The insanity of $90 million for new human cages is obvious and MUST be prevented.

The legislature should act in the interests of the people of Greene County and not those of vested interests. A new big jail would be a new big mistake , one that would cost us for decades, while health, housing and education projects go unfunded and unrealized.

Our county has ranked near the bottom in NY State in every measurement of quality of life for years. Building this jail would only solidify this ignorant, backward, often corrupt status. Let's be forward-looking for a change and do the rational thing!

As a young adult living in Greene County whom is just about to purchase their first home, I would greatly appreciate my taxes not go just so we can build an entirely unnecessary 70 million dollar jail. Let’s be smarter than people give this county credit for folks

No New Jail. We do not need this huge expense nor its' resultant taxes.

As a resident of Coxsackie who has also opened up a small business here, it is outrageous to see the amount of money spent on an increasingly un-needed jail. If the county were to put just a fraction of the money earmarked for this multimillion dollar project into revitalization help for the many struggling small towns in the immediate area, just imagine how many more jobs and economies could be created. Coxsackie is a lovely little town, but time and time again it is discounted as a "jail town." What a missed opportunity for a creative re-imagining of Greene County's future.

The way I see it if they building a new jail we will give a rise to police harassment in our communities and to fill it. NO NEW JAIL!

I am writing as a 5 year resident of Coxsackie in strong opposition to the new Greene County Jail. As I understand it, the jail has been approved, however, in light of the new prison legislation, spending this incredible amount of tax payer money in unconscionable. $7o Million+, a 13% tax increase, in order to house less than 40 inmates and give jobs to less than 30 corrections officers who have other job opportunities close by is unacceptable. What would happen if even a fraction of this taxpayer money was devoted to revitalization of our struggling towns, which in turn would create opportunity for far more than 30 jobs? Why not use such funding to benefit the majority of the population rather than the few? Please pause and rethink before getting Greene County into a hole that it can't dig out of.

Listen to Dr Torgerson and not build the proposed expensive jail - rather let's look at alternative methods of housing inmates.

There are much better ways to spend money in our county to make it a better and more prosperous place to live, this would be a terrible waste of resources!

As a longtime resident of Catskill, I am shocked and appalled by the needless rush to build an exorbitantly expensive jail when the prison population it going down and curant sentencing reform will further lower the prison population. Furthermore, our elected town and county management have provided no funds for middle and high school education mediation, anger management and conflict resolution. These low cost methods would further reduce the need for a jail.
