Stop the heavy truck traffic through Keremeos's downtown core

Keremeos has a big problem especially in summer. A constant stream of heavy truck traffic right down the main street of the town in both directions. Keremeos has a bypass, it was constructed as such, but few if any trucks actually use it and the Village and the Highways Department are indifferent to the problems this causes to the people who live here and the businesses that try and eek out a living.
There are may small communities in BC who have truck re- routing but Keremeos is not one of them. To have a vibrant city core that's conducent to getting tourists to stop, look around, explore and hopefully spend some money you can't have logging trucks, hay trucks and other huge semi trucks eight feet of your bumper. We don't slow down and look for a parking spot and neither do the tourists. Fortunately we I have the advantage of knowing where to park alternatively, they do not.
The problem could easily be solved, at almost zero cost, by putting a load limit on the road and redirecting all the heavy trucks onto the bypass from both directions. Trucks going east would all have to take the bypass. Trucks from Penticton could easily be directed down the bypass and some simple signage for trucks going to and from Osoyoos/Oliver using the portion of the highway from Bears fruit stand to the RCMP. Trucks going to and from the fruit plant and the building supply would be able to use the 7th st hill for local access and egress. No costly road changes need to be made as they are already in place and the only cost involved would be to update signage. We need the heavy trucks off the main street.
