There is a local couple who help literally thousands of Clay, Duval, Baker and St. John's County residents with their mobile pet vaccination clinics. They vaccinate pets for much cheaper than going to the vet. In the last three years they have been in business, they have vaccinated more than 18,000 animals. Dave and Pat Watkins perform an invaluable service to Florida communities especially in these tough economic times. Recently several veterinarians from Clay and Duval counties have been approaching the locations where Cheap Shots perform their mobile services and made threats. They have intimidated the business owners and caused them to stop working with Cheap Shots. Dave and Pat Watkins spend much time obtaining permits and posting signs in advance. This has cost them much revenue and besmirched their reputation. It also has deprived the community from a much needed service. If you go to the Florida department of Health's website, chapter 5 it states : "Most Florida counties currently address the problem of epizootic raccoon rabies via a coalition of state and county public health agencies and collaborators using some combination of the following preventive measures: 1) Rabies Alert and in rare cases Area Quarantine; 2) enforcement of pet vaccination ordinances; 3) low-cost rabies vaccination clinics; 4) apprehension of stray dogs, cats, and nuisance wildlife the years by various county health departments and local animal control agencies." As you can see -- the state of Florida ADVOCATES Low-cost clinics. I believe that there would be a very large number of dogs and cats that would not be vaccinated against rabies - in particular - and parvo, distemper and more, if it were not for a low cost clinic such as Dave and Pat have. These same people would most likely just not get their animals vaccinated. They are not stealing customers from the vets. They are providing a much needed service for people who have experienced hard times in this economic climate in Florida in particular. If you go to their Facebook page or their website http://www.petshotsclinic.com you will see what they are about and how much they help the animal community here. This petition will be taken to the locations that have pulled their support, including Duke’s BBQ in Lake Asbury, Tire Kingdom on Fleming Island and Bono’s BBQ. We will also present it to the veterinarians involved. Please sign and ask all your animal-loving friends to sign as well. DO NOT LET THEM INTIMIDATE THESE GOOD PEOPLE OR US!!
