We the undersigned do not support the Garden Parkway toll road, (STIP Project U-3321).  We are opposed to the Garden Parkway because North Carolina has many more pressing transportation needs than a toll road that the Department of Transportation concedes will actually increase traffic on I-85 an take jobs away from North Carolina and Gaston County.  If constructed, the North Carolina taxpayer would have to commit $35 million annually for 40 years to the unwanted project.  This $1.4 billion principal and interest subsidy would be necessary because tolls will not cover the cost of construction or operation.
