Stop the Flying Horse 2 Development and Stagecoach Road Extension
We the undersigned vehemently object to the Flying Horse 2 development and the extension of Stagecoach Road. Our objection to these projects is so strong that we would consider the approval of this project a huge betrayal on the part of our elected officials. We see any benefits of this project to be short term financial gains to the detriment of the safety of our families, quality of life, natural preservation and character of the area. How our elected officials decide in this matter will effect our long term position towards those officials in whatever position they may want to stand for in future.
With regards to the extension of the Stagecoach Road to accommodate this development. We object for the following reasons.
• The extension of this road will create a huge increase in traffic on the existing Stagecoach Road which is essentially a residential road that cannot be modified to accommodate this increase in traffic. Stagecoach Road is home to many families with small children, the increase in traffic would be an added danger to them not to mention a decrease in the quality of their living situation caused by increased noise and pollution
• The existing Stagecoach Road is a narrow, winding road with different inclines that gets very little sunlight and is covered with snow and ice for much of the winter. An increase in traffic would make this road very dangerous for residents, their children and commuters who choose to travel on it.
• The adjoining Roller Coaster Road is also often impassable during winter snows and in general could not handle increased traffic.
• Where Stagecoach meets the 83 is a small junction with restricted visibility.
With regard to the matter of the Flying Horse 2 Development we object for the following reasons.
• Aside from the golf course ( of which we seem to have many) the economic benefits of this project are mainly short term: the money generated from the construction and sale of properties. What strengthens the economy of Colorado Springs in the long term is the attractiveness for families and businesses to move here and stay here. Black Forest is a gem in Colorado Springs of historical and natural significance. If we further erode this treasure and then replicate this short term attitude throughout the area we take with it the reasons why people want to live here.
• The burden on the Aquifer
• It will massively increase the traffic on 83 , a road which for the most part cannot be widened to accommodate the extra traffic
• Changing the zoning from 5 acre to 2.5 acre lots would open the door to similar developments which would be to the detriment of the character and natural beauty of Black Forest.
• The prevailing character of Black Forest is rural, dedicated to animal rearing, homesteading and small scale agriculture. The project with a new golf course is the complete antithesis of this.
We reiterate that we would consider the approval of this project a huge betrayal on the part of our elected officials. We see any benefits of this project to be short term financial gains to the detriment of the safety of our families, quality of life, natural preservation and character of the area. How our elected officials decide in this matter will effect our long term position towards those officials in whatever position they may want to stand for in future.
