A proposed subdivision at the location of 100 Meadowbrook Drive in Bedford, Nova Scotia to add a cul de sac with 8 houses was denied due to the new road could not meet the Halifax Regional Municipality minimum distance between intersections for a collector road, and did not meet setback requirements back in 2012. The new road cannot meet the the Transportation Association of Canada minimum distance between intersections for a collector road or the Department of Transportation and Communications of Nova Scotia minimum distance between intersections for a collector road. An appeal to the Utilities and Review board was dismissed as well. This proposal has now been re submitted, the HRM planning department is allowing the resubmission and considering approval of the resubmitted concept plan. The location of this new road would be right on a turn, on the busy street in the walking path of elementary aged school children. There is already limited visibility due to the bend in the road on top of a hill, Meadowbrook drive is excessively steep at this location, as well as the other two side streets adjacent to this area, would not meet today's safety standards, and therefore the existing roads would not be allowed. This is almost the same exact plan that was rejected in 2012 so what has changed since then? Resident calls the HRM development office have been futile because the phone is not answered by staff and there is no opportunity to leave a voicemail.
