On Tuesday, October 16, Forney City Council will be considering a rezoning request to destroy the Gateway concept with a 1.2 million square foot distribution center at the southwest corner of Highway 80 and Gateway nicknamed "Project Fireball."

In 2016, the City adopted a new comprehensive plan that envisioned a walkable mixed use center with retail, office, and high quality housing at this location. In Texas, the Texas Local Government Code requires zoning to be in conformance with a city's comprehensive plan.

On October 4, 2018, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-1 to recommend approval of this project, despite it's lack of conformance with the City's comprehensive plan. Should the City Council approve the project on Tuesday, the act would be illegal.
