Stop the Daily Debacle at the Nittany Parking Deck

It doesn't seem right that there are employees waiting for passes while students are allowed to park. There need to be spaces for visitors in the garage but the majority of the "visitors" are now students in violation of the stated rules. Also, couldn't they incentivize prepaying? Like an app or using the kiosks in the stairwells provides a discount (or impose a convenience fee for paying at the gate).

There is no reason why you can’t at least manage the situation better. An exit lane dedicated to permit holders and limiting visitors to the very top two levels would go a long way to alleviating the problems we now face daily using this deck.

They need to dismantle the payment machines at exit, that is what cause the delay. Also not sure the reason for attendant in booth, I have had issues with pass and he makes you push button for help. What is his job, to tell you to push button. Please disable machines at exit, the those parking garage can wait in line to pay at machine by steps and faster exit.

It is ridiculous that students park in deck , get semester permits and full time employees are put on waiting lists to get a pass!!!!!! We have people in landscape that are on waiting list for a pass, to be able to park for work, TOTAL BS!

Although the parking office has attempted to make it obvious to pay for parking before exiting, this doesn't appear to be happening. Recently, I spent 10 minutes sitting in my parking space because a line of cars was backed up around several levels. This is not OK. I find the statement from facilities that they are allowing the parking by students to provide revenue so they don't have to increase the monthly permit rate insulting. The fact that we have to pay for parking is bad enough, and, we paid during the pandemic while the campus was shut down! PSU can do better for their employees.

I realize a parking permit is no more than a hunting license qualifying the holder to search for a space. But that has become a much more challenging proposition now that the garage is full to overflowing with student vehicles. An excessive amount of time is spent getting in and out of the garage, although admittedly the experience is enlivened by a correspondingly great increase in erratic and overly fast driving, endangering pedestrians making their way to their cars.

Please consider having a pass-holder only exit so that monthly pass holders do not have to wait in long pay-to-park lines to exit.

Student drivers are often fast and reckless as they try to get in and out quickly before and after class, leading to dangerous pedestrian conditions. They pay at the gate, leading to long lines. One has to budget additional time or try to enter/leave the deck in the middle of scheduled classes rather than during class changeovers.

If you have rules, enforce them. If they are suggestions tell us.

I have been late to class this semester because I couldn't find parking. Please enforce your own rules and stop rewarding rule breakers.

Just asking you to do what's right. Work is stressful enough, parking shouldn't be.

I use the parking deck coming from off campus to use the library. It is about the maximum walk I can do. I now arrange a drop off because the space is not available.

I used to leave campus for medical appointments, but can no longer do so. I am terrified I will come back and either not find a parking spot, or will find 20 minutes trying. My car has been dinged more in the last three months than in 20 years, and students will NOT pay before getting to the credit card machines at the exit, meaning you can wait up to 15 minutes in a winding line just to exit the building at the end of the day! I pay my monthly fee every month. Shouldn't that mean I am guaranteed a parking spot? I don't pay that so that I will "likely" have a parking spot. If the deck is full, what is the alternative? Our unit brings 100 faculty and students from other campus locations to UP 7 - 8 times a year for a full day of meetings. We BUY parking stickers for that. I am constantly worried that there won't be a parking spot for these individuals. It's really ridiculous.

It's great that the parking brings in extra revenue but not at the cost of creating a headache for it's faculty and staff. Even if they could some way only allow visitor parking on the top floors of the deck, that would be great. I have had where students back up traffic waiting to get a spot on the first or second floor, which in returns back up traffic for everyone else.

The stress of the parking garage and the current situation is ridiculous. With no enforcement, the students are continually causing grief in the garage. I arrive at 7 am with no issues (although students are parking in the garage this early) but trying to leave is crazy. It takes forever to get out of the garage. Traffic is backed up continually and no one uses the machines to pay before leaving. They use the exit to do this which is part of the issue. The recklessness of these students is terrible. They just don't care. I would like to see these rules enforced so that faculty and staff don't have these issues to worry about.

PSU parking enforcement is a joke, this is ridiculous.
