As Australians and living close to the ocean we have grown up around marine life. Unfortunately one of the ocean's most important animals the shark, has been stereotyped as a mean and ruthless killer. This stereotype is mainly as how sharks have been perceived by the media, the media and movies such as jaws shows sharks as killers that hunt humans. But in fact this is not the truth, humans kill worldwide 273 million sharks per year, 11,414 a hour,190 per minute, 3 every second, at a rate when sharks cannot reproduce quick enough to survive. It has been proven by research that females Great White Sharks do not reach sexual maturity until 33 years old, males at 26 years. Sharks only kill 5 humans per year. We as Australians have the power to stop this cruel and violent murder of innocent sharks. Sharks play a vital part in marine ecosystems, keeping the ocean population free from old, weak or sick fish and allowing the population to pass on healthy genes. As a country that has a government influenced greatly by the public, you have the power to save the oceans.
