Say NO to the development and operation of a gasoline storage and dispensing facility to be built feet away from Manchester Ave Elementary School, neigboring homes and churches on 85th and Hoover in South Los Angeles. South Coast Air Quality Management District wants to build this facility where it will emit small particles of toxic compounds in the air. Our children and adults will breathe in these hazardous particles causing health issues such as Heart Damage, Coughing, Impaired Lungs, Birth Defects, or worse CANCER.

I HAVE BEEN SPENDING MY ENTIRE WEEK MEETING WITH LOCAL LEADERS TO ENSURE THIS TOXIC FACILITY NEVER TOUCHES OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!! THE ENERGY FROM ALL OF YOU IS ABSOLUTELY ELECTRIC AND IT IS GIVING US THE POWER TO KEEP FIGHTING FOR OUR CHILDREN!!

This would never happen in a white, middle class or upper middle class neighborhood. This is unsafe and is an example of environmental racism.
This is an overwhelmed corner... There's a gas adjacent to the proposed location...an elementary school, and what is said to be a homeless support agency...no room for another gas station in this location...this is a health and safety issue and risk.

I do not want a gasoline storage/dispensing facility in my neighborhood. This is too dangerous for children and adults.I Iive in the neighborhood and work at Manchester Ave Elementary. It is inhumane to release toxic substances in the air while my family plays at school on the playground. How dare you think this is acceptable.

Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson: As someone whose (per your city website) priorities are to increase government responsiveness and improve public safety as well as envisioning a safe, vibrant community where us and our families can thrive, how can this be allowed? As a former student of Manchester Avenue School and former resident of 85th and Hoover neighborhood, I am appalled that this is being considered rather than bringing in a much needed grocery store (on the southwest corner) for the community which it so desperately has needed since the 1992 riots. How will this bring a safety net and make our community’s health thrive? Please reanalyze this and be the voice you say you are for this community. Your own community

As a former student and staff at Manchester, I’m in shock that the city would even allow this. High hopes this reaching Gov. Newsom. We need to protect our community and most important our children!
