The majority of the sewing and overlock machines in the lab barely work, the irons are dangerous as they consistently spout hot water and burn students hands... put our tuition money towards our education and safety.

The school has been good this year with fixing up parts of the school, however, to expand into a welcome center would NOT be beneficial to students who need a close by resource for supplies in a pinch. I also agree that school money would be better spent on maintaining school equipment and internal issues (the school temperature is either freezing cold or boiling hot, even after thermostat adjustments).

The school is taking away the resources we need to be strong design students. The new plan might promote the school, but will bring students grades and participication down because the supplies are no where near to be found except for 23rd street. Then what is there to promote when that happens? Nothing. Closest art store is 23st. Which is a long walk when youre in class and waste of a break time. Don't make it harder on us, were always stressed out. For sure grades will go down because people don't have supplies and don't want to walk far to get supplies. It will make our students lazy. We also go to a school that barely give us any supplies to work with, and now were bring robbed of all of it.

This is an outrage. I already graduated FIT from the fashion design program, and this was just about the only good thing FIT really provided to the art and design students. I also just love the convenience of it in Chelsea. It is so much less congested than the Garment District stores.

FDB saved me many times during my semesters in Fashion Design and it's absolutely ridiculous that FIT wants to turn it into a welcoming center, when the design studios are falling apart. They should use the money to fix those first.

I cannot imagine attempting to succeed as a design student at fit WITHOUT the Fashion Design Bookstore. It is quite literally an indispensable establishment to the design and art students. It is the ONLY store selling sewing supplies within a reasonable proximity to the school, and it collaborates with our professors to ensure they're stocking not just the books but the supplies that we need. The school's own Barnes & Nobel bookstore is an absolutely insufferable experience– it's consistently understocked, overpriced, and the staff are basically catatonic.
