When all the bans proponents have given up their gas cars, perhaps, but until then lets not burden our small business/landscapers.

This law needs to be phased in as the technology improves. If it is good for the citizens it should also be good for the City and School

We have a larger yard which will be difficult to maintain with electric blowers. We are elderly people who cannot maintain the property ourselves

It is great that Rye is thinking ahead but until technology catches up with the industry this should be sidelined.
This ban is putting handcuffs on our hard working landscapers.

There are certain properties, that will be a ridiculous hardship to keep clean in the spring and fall with a complete ban on leaf blowers. An older resident (or me by myself) could never keep a property like mine, due to the size and downhill topography clean, and no landscapers will want to take it on without it costing the homeowner an inordinate amount for the upkeep (as well as it taking an obscene amount of time with the proposed new ban). We don’t want to create a situation where our property values go down because nobody wants them because they cant maintain them due to the extreme cost , or they have be just left being a mess. landscapers will need to pass their costs and extra labor time due to this proposed ban onto the homeowner, and many just won’t want to work in Rye anymore. Homeowners will stop planting trees so that they don’t have all the necessary clean up they create, which will have the opposite environmental effect. The battery powered blowers (and only 1 allowed at a time) are not an adequate substitute. This proposed new law will just make living in an already expensive area with high property taxes, even more expensive than living someplace like neighboring greenwich. It will make our properties and town less desirable. Since country clubs and schools and town properties are exempt, that means it’s understood that it’s very hard to clean those areas with a year round ban on blowers. Most of the people that are the biggest supporters of this ban have very little yard to clean up. Perhaps the law should only apply to properties that are less than 1/4 acre or something like that. I know those who support the ban have been the most vocal. I have lived in Rye since 2004, and no residents I know support this new ban. Unfortunately, we haven’t all spoken up. I think it’s going to be a disaster for many reasons if implemented.

I fully support the petition & do not believe gas powered blowers should be banned. Banning the gas powered blowers will be a detriment to the landscapes of Rye & create an undue hardship on contracts. The technology for battery operated blower is not there.
