We are petitioning the Harare City Council to stop the seizure of 2.6 hectares of land that is being leased by the Old Hararians Association, also known as the Old Hararians Sports Club (OH). OH is a community club where football, rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis, squash and other indoor and outdoor activities are played. This is a sports club that holds international activities with the recent one being the 2019 ICC World Cup cricket qualifiers. The land to be seized is mainly swamp (a wetland) and is the field where social football and events are hosted by the Club. However, Council wants to use this land for commercial use, namely a medical centre, farmers’ market, recreational space, a creche and a fuel station which is not what this land is purposed for.

Action petitioned for
We, the undersigned want the City Council to immediately stop the seizure, and make sure that the land will only be used for the Club’s sporting purposes, and any other recreational purposes as determined by the Club’s Constitution and in fulfillment of its Mission Statement.
