The city finally scrapped the permit fee and lifted the limits on street musicians. Seeing the streets of Bonn filled with music again without that unfair tax brings me such peace. Thank you for helping me protect the heartbeat of our city.

petition, draws attention to the current regulation and unfair taxation of
street musicians in Bonn.
A permit to busk in Bonn is valid for two days and costs € 10 per person. Each day only three tickets are issued for the whole of Bonn. The undersigned kindly request that, should you feel the need to even regulate street music at all, then could you please adopt the Cologne model where performing permits are required, but are issued free of charge and are not limited in number. Many thanks in advance for supporting more, and not less, live acoustic music in Bonn.

In der am 26./27.04.2014 erscheinenden Bad Godesberger Ausgabe des Generalanzeigers machte ein Artikel (Kopie liegt anbei) auf die aktuelle Regelung bzw. unfaire „Besteuerung“ im Bezug auf Straßenmusikern in Bonn aufmerksam.
Mit allem Respekt möchten die Unterzeichnenden darum bitten, dass für den Fall, dass Sie es für notwendig halten, Straßenmusik zu regulieren, das Kölner Model zu übernehmen. Dort ist die Erlaubnis, Straßenmusik zu machen zwar notwendig, ist aber kostenlos und die Anzahl der auftretenden Personen ist nicht begrenzt.
Mit herzlichem Dank im voraus dafür, dass Sie live Musik in Bonn mehr und nicht weniger unterstützen.

I have been spending my afternoons in the city center watching talented performers struggle to navigate these unfair permit fees. My conversations with these artists confirm that a simple change to the Cologne model would completely revitalize the music scene here. I am currently preparing a formal proposal to present to the city council based on your shared frustrations.

Seeing this much energy behind the petition proves that Bonn wants to keep the music alive on our streets. I truly thought I would be fighting this alone but now it feels like we might actually convince the city to adopt the Cologne model.

Wenn euch die Kultur dieser Stadt am Herzen liegt, dann erschwert nicht denen das Leben, die die Innenstadt zwischen Kommerz und Kommerz zumindest noch etwas am Leben erhalten.
Even Beethoven will rise up from his grave if this fee for street music continues in his beloved city!
Straßenkunst zu zensieren (auch "qualitativ" - wo ist hier der Maßstab?) ist grundsätzlich ein Unding - denn dabei werden die nachwachsenden Pflanzen neuer kultureller Beiträge zertreten. Ich bin über 15 Jahre Straßenmusik vom engagierten Talent zum soliden Profi geworden - eine großartige Schule, die allen jungen Kollegen offenstehen sollte.
Die freie Kultur verursacht für die Stadt Bonn keine nennenswerten Kosten. Das Verlangen einer kostenpflichtigen Straßenmusik-Erlaubnis hilft im Gegenzug niemandem, insbesondere wenn eigene Musik aufgeführt wird, die das Urheberrecht tangiert.
Even if Bonn wishes to regulate permits by charging for them, or limiting the number, the main point is that there should not be such a strict limit of permits for a city like Bonn, smaller than Cologne, yet big enough for street music where musicians rotate anyways every half hour..
"Thank you for the music, the songs they're singing. Thanks for all the joy they're bringing. Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty. What would life be?" [ABBA] And wouldn't it be wonderful, if they could do it for free?

Strassenmusik belebt das Stadtbild und die Geschäfte. Es sollte auch so bleiben.
