I would constantly come home everyday telling my aunt how much people bothered me. She would tell the school and so would i. and they did nothing. Mrs,Carr never cared about us getting bullied like she said she did on the news. Shields DOES have a bullying problem. She lied on the news. My aunt would constantly yell at the staff to do something and they didnt. i did get into fights alot but thats because after a while i stood up for myself. and i never started the issues. i just ended them because no one else would help me. i would get bullied so much to the point where i started to self harm and think more about suicide and just tired of always being the victumn. and when other kids got bullied i would cry for them and help them stand up for themselves. some kids just dont have the bold voice that they need to have. so i wanted to help out. but the bullying should be stopped once and for all.

I remember when a girl used to bother me alot and hurt me (this was in 6th grade) and the teachers just ignored me even the principal. Even some girls tried to report a threat the office told her to come back later because the counselor is busy... Unbelievable

Administration is not visible at the school. The principal is always at meetings, and hardly on campus since she returned from her leave of absence. Although Shields is one of the largest middle schools in the county, all four administrators have less than 5 years in their current position. Shields needs veteran administrators - there needs to be a change of administration as well as teachers. Regarding staff that cares - there are teachers that do; but why hasn't administration addressed teachers (data chats) whose students have a large percentage of receiving a "D" or "F" on their report card - sometimes it's not always the students. This school is a horrible school, and I would discourage any parent from sending their child here! Place your child in a magnet school.

When you have a school that is built for 900 hundred kids and there are 1500+ it's a problem of numbers. The staff at Shields are intelligent people who care for children. This problem starts from above at the district level. They kick back issues and refuse to come down hard. Admin does their best, but if the county says no to expulsion and other penalties such as parent pick up for bullying offenders then who's fault is it. If you have an issue with your child, try spending a day at Shields and make your own objective decision.

Is the school district reading these comments? How are the comments on this petition being handle? Since this news story broke nothing has changed, and I have not seen any district officials on campus since the story aired! Every administrator has less than 3 years experience in their current position, they are being mentored for OTJ training. Nevertheless, these are the issues that need to change: 1) The school administrators are not visable and do not walk the hallways during the school day - after the tardy bell rings they can be found in the courtyard talking and then report to their offices. There are teachers that have called the office due to a disruptive student, but administration does not remove the student; and it is believed that the office staff are refusing to answer the phones because they don't want to deal with the problem student - now this disruptive student is tormenting the class with 50 minutes of misbehavior.
2) There are students that are sent to the office to report threats but are told to come back to the office because the AP is busy.
3) "Bullying" videos are aired on the morning show, but it is just show the community how lazy administration is - why hasn't administration addressed this issue at a schoolwide assembly?
4) Students have witnessed administrators bully teachers which has led to verbal confrontations in front of students. The morale is at an all time low at this school, because administration is not being held accountable for their unprofessional actions and lack of support.
I am glad that the community is beginning to speak out and wants change! I do hope this petition gets its 1000 signatures.

The school needs to implement a behavior code that states any child that is guilty of bullying another will immediately be expelled and charged with assault & battery as an adult wether it be physically, verbally, mentally or any other type of bullying for that matter.

My son was jumped by 5 kids in the bathroom yesterday, 2/15/17 at Beth Shields. Ms. Webb suspended my son until next Fri 2/24/17. Even though her original phone call to me was "your son was involved in a altercation, but it was not his fault" He didn't fight back yet he gets suspended. Nice way to punish the victim. He did not fight back because he did not want to get in trouble at school or home.

My daughter came home crying today. She said she was going to fail a writing test because she did not finish it. My daughter has an IEP and she let her teacher know that she needs extra time because she did not finish the test. However, she was not given any more time and was told that the essays will be graded. I am very angry because my daughter asked for more time and she was not given it. I hope that Shields administrators and district officials are reading this, it is a violation of the law when schools do not comply with the IEP.

Some of the bullies are protected by 504 and iep plans too. That is fine, however they still need to have consequences.

I know from experience that it not only comes from the children but also teachers. I should have called the news when it happened just as I told the Principal. I'm still waiting for a teacher to apologize to my child in the office with the Principal and that was before Christmas break.

I am glad that the community is saying enough is enough with the bullying at Shields! The #1 problem at Shields is that "administrators do not believe that the school has a bullying problem" (Fox13news.com). I was so disturbed by the unethical and unprofessional behavior of Shields administration that I have emailed the Hillsborough County School Board: tracking id- 170205-8670. Parents, teachers have been discouraged by administration to write referrals due to student misconduct; also, teachers have been told by administrators to delete disciplinary referrals. Shields teachers and students feel hopeless and powerless due to not having the support of administration in regards to discipline. It is wonderful to read that parents are taking action regarding their child's education.
