Stop the boundary change. VVL for Highland

A big part of the allure of the Val Vista Lakes neighborhood was the actual neighborhood AND the fact that it is within the Highland High School District. According to the Arizona State Board of Education, Highland ranks superior to Gilbert in all factors. At Greatschools.com Highland High ranks a full two points above Gilbert High. Per schooldigger, Highland is ranked 94th in the state while Gilbert is ranked 154th! US News shows 28.1% of Highland students are ready for college while for Gilbert it is only 9.2%!!! When you surround yourself by success you are more likely to achieve success. When you surround yourself by failure, you will see more failure. I remember when I was in high school, each year it was announced where the seniors were going to college- Ivy league, military academy, prestigious schools throughout the country. That inspired me to succeed. When 1 in 10 of seniors are going to any college at all, you are less likely to inspire younger students to strive. On top of that, this potential move will essentially ruin the tax base of entire communities like Val Vista Lakes. Of 29 resales of homes in the Gilbert HS district- one story, pool homes between 2000 and 2500 square feet built between 1980 and 2000, the median price was $355,000. In the Highland HS district with 31 resales of the same criteria the median price was $370,000. That's a 4.2% premium for homes in the Highland district? What about crime? It is markedly higher in the Gilbert district! That means that our children will be subjected to a higher probability of being in proximity to a crime as they are spending at least 35 hours a week in the area- assuming that none of that crime spills over into our own community. But here's the deal- You the district already know all of this. This is my half hour of personal research. I'm highlighting it to further anger my fellow petitioners who simply have a preference to stay in the Highland district. The number of petitioners doe

We understand that change occurs in a town growing as fast as Gilbert, but seems unfair at the expense of established neighborhoods that have been loyal and supportive of Highland HS all these years. Preference is to keep Val Vista Lakes within the Highland boundary, but if not then VVL residents should have a grandfathered provision for a boundary exception to open enroll over new homes that were in another boundary prior to this change.

Please help get this information out to all the residents. Ask your neighbors to check out the gilbert high underachieving scores. This is not where our students should be going. Please have everyone sign this petition and plan on attending the meeting in January. Thanks for supporting all of our children

Please help get this issue before all the Val Vista residents. The school board is aware that the timing over the holidays will hopefully cause less residents to be involved. It is up to us as residents to make our voice heard. It will affect the property values for long term residents and it will impact in a very significant way the students that are our future. Please share this information with friends and neighbors

Please keep VVL schools Highland and Highland JR High. I am a long time resident of VVL and my daughter attended k-12 at VVL Elem, Highland JR, and Highland High.

Val vista lakes kids have notoriously gone to Highland High School. I was a VVL kid and graduated Highland in 2016. Families want their younger children to go through the same teachers/curriculum as their older children. The boundary rule IS and ALWAYS HAS BEEN completely pointless. Let children and parents decide where they want their kids to get educated, otherwise families will just end up bending the rules to get their kids boundary accepted anyways. You’d think Gilbert Public Schools have bigger fish to fry than trying to enforce irrational boundary rules, such as pushing for higher teacher pay, since we are among the bottom 15% for such.

My children and their education/safety/experience are the most important to me. They have an established home at highland. This will not be changing for my family. All of the parents understand the differences between these schools. This is the Information Age. NO to the boundary change
