The residents of Boulder never voted on whether the city of Boulder could start their own utility. The 2011 vote authorized $1.9 million only to study municipalization. The residents of Boulder never voted on an additional $4.9 million to condemn the utility. Boulder will have spent about $13 million by the end of 2014 trying to form a utility. The city is asking for an 18.5% budget increase and 50 new staff members, putting the financial health of the city at risk. For $13 million the city could have put rooftop solar on about 7,000 homes and made a real dent in carbon reduction. Please sign this petition to stop the City of Boulder from spending dollars from the general fund that were not authorized by voters. It is time to use those resources for real carbon reduction.
