The University finally backed down and scrapped their plan to gut our library hours. They clearly underestimated how hard we would fight to save our access to the space we need. Keep watching them closely because we will not let them try this shortcut again.

Final supporters
The Wolfson Medical Library, is to have its opening hours reduced by 64% from 168 hours a week, down to 60; restricting it to an 8am-8pm, weekday opening. A drastic move away from the 24 hour access currently offered to medical students; many of whom require access at all hours of the day, due to their shift work in hospitals and heavy workloads.
The University’s plans are due to be implemented at the start of the new semester in September, reducing the opportunity for full consultation with students and staff.
Glasgow University Students' Representative Council (GUSRC) have launched this petition for students to sign to express their opposition to the proposed reduction of this academic provision.

The university leadership thinks they can force these cuts through in the dark but the massive surge in support proves they have underestimated us. They are trying to gut our study space while we work shifts in hospitals and it is an absolute insult to every medical student on this campus.

The University administration thinks they can slash our library hours without a fight but they are wrong. We are right on the edge of 500 signatures and we need to hit that mark before they have any excuse to ignore us. 64% is insane! Med students arent just 9-5 workers. They have shifts and clinicals and need that space at night.
total rubbish. please reconsider this before the semester starts.
Keep it open 24/7. It was a selling point for the uni and now they just want to save a few quid at our expense.
Absolute joke. How are people supposed to study for exams with this kind of restriction? Sort it out.
