Addiction is a disease that does not discriminate. A celebration of life ceremony was to be held at a community park in Lower Macungie Park in August. The purpose of the event was to have a memorial for 5 people who lost their battle with addiction, and to provide addiction awareness. Several granite park benches were to be donated to the park. One week after verbally granting permission to use the park, township officials "changed their minds", stating that they do not want the township to be associated with drug addicts. The benches which were to be donated made no reference to drugs or alcohol, and the purpose of the ceremony was to bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse, and advocate for recovery.
