On Tuesday 19 September 2023 at 22H30 members of the Onyati anti-Poaching Unit, Nyime Group and with assistance from the Namibian Police Force apprehended a white Toyota bakkie at the junction of Okahandja which was spotted at the 30km road. A fire arm was found in the back of the vehicle where the serial number had been filed out. There were two cattle carcasses which were illegally slaughtered originating from Agagia Ranch, Okahandja district. Some of these suspects have been released recently for pending stock theft cases and they have been apprehended again for the same offence. The operation of the abovementioned entities were coordinated due to verified information that the suspects have been involved in numerous incidents of poaching and stock theft, in specific the poaching and theft of cattle. The abovementioned entities have been monitoring the involvement of these individuals in the said numerous stock theft and poaching incidents for months without any success. However, dedication and tenacity translated to a successful apprehension of the said suspects. Needless to say Namibian Farmers, especially during the last year, have suffered substantial damages with a definite escalation in the number of incidents and the number of animals stolen or poached across the country and the situation has become endemic. These criminals are becoming more brazen with every incident, slaughtering more and more animals at each instance. Animals have even been slaughtered and left to rot in the "veld". In the pursuit of fairness and justice it is imperative that these suspects be denied bail so that a clear example can be set for future instances of stock theft. It is time to protect our Namibian Farmers, Farming Communities and general food security in our Country. It is imperative to mention that, with verified information it has been established that the suspects are habitual transgressors and are not likely to desist with their illegal actions. We therefore urge you to kindly sign this petition and circulate it to as many people as possible to oppose the bail application for these suspects.
