We, the residents of the Evergreen Farms Subdivision and proximate subdivisions, oppose the request to amend the existing zoning to allow for a liquor store within the strip center under construction at 1725 Saint Andrews Drive.

We demand that the City of Murfreesboro Planning Commission and City Council deny the application for the rezoning.

Liquor stores are a common sight in distressed areas. Evergreen Farms is a residential community that is family oriented with children, schools, churches, and organizations. We do not want a liquor store in the middle of our neighborhood, near our homes and schools. It has been proven to bring down property values, brings unwanted traffic, and causes increased security issues and crime as well as, excess noise, nuisance, and trash.

Our concerns are listed below:

Nearby Elementary Schools -

Cason Lane Academy is 0.9 miles from the proposed liquor store.

1330 Cason Ln, Murfreesboro, TN 37128, (615) 898-7145

Scales Elementary School is 0.9 miles from the proposed liquor store.

2340 Saint Andrews Dr, Murfreesboro, TN 37128, (615) 895-5279

Parking and traffic congestion – There are existing access and safety concerns with the high level of traffic on St. Andrews and Cason Lane. This will exacerbate the problem.

Security, increased crime, and loitering – There is a potential to attract undesirable behavior. Studies show the liquor stores increase crime.

The feedback from our neighbors has been relentless and heavy because nobody wants to see this store move into our quiet streets. I am spending my evenings tracking down Planning Commission members to ensure they hear our frustrations directly. It is exhausting work but the safety of our children justifies the grind.

Reaching this point has been an exhausting uphill climb but seeing the backing we have now proves that this fight is far from over. I am tired of the constant hurdles yet your commitment keeps me focused on the goal of protecting our neighborhood.

I don't live close to where the liquor store will be but it will affect my daughter when she starts at Scales Elementary. I don't want this in the neighborhood. There are other liquor stores in commercial areas that people can go to get their spirits. Just not in this area

The children's bus stop for middle school and highschool will now be directly in front of a liquor store? Thats seriously asking for trouble. This type of business has no business in the middle of a residential neighborhood and that close to 2 school and countless daycares.

Too close to 2 elementary schools, don't want drinking and driving in our residential neighborhood, would decrease the value of our homes, too close to at least 3 other liquor stores. We have enough and don't need anymore!

It would be the beginning of the end of this neighborhood. Our houses would immediately start loosing value and it would be hard to sell with a neighborhood liquor store next door. I really enjoy our neighborhood and love that my children's school is so close to our home. I absolutely do not want to see a zoning appeal approved for a liquor store.

I am opposed to a liquor being built in the middle of a neighborhood and situated less than a mile away from 2 elementary schools. Crime in the neighborhood is already on the rise and this will only invite more in. Please be mindful of the young families who work hard and want to live and raise their children in a safe, caring community.

Family friendly options for a strip mill do NOT include a liquor store. That's why it was NOT on the original approved list for that plot of land!

I live walking distance from the purposed liquor store, I also have 5 year & 6 year old boys who attend Cason lane Academy, the location of this liquor store will make liquor easily abailable and will negatively affect our communities public health, safety, and quallity of life if this liquor store opens its doors it will also put our children at a high risk for under age drinking. At a community level, these stores can act as magnets for crime and violence and expose residents to paotiential harm. YOU ARE PUTTING OUR COMMUNITY AT RISK AS A RESULT OF THIS DECISION. COMMUNITITES WITH LIQUOR STORES HAVE A HIGHER RATE OF ALCOHOL-RELATED HOSPITALIZATIONS DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENTS, AND PEDESTRIAN INJURIES, CHILDHOOD ACCIDENTS, ASSAULTS AND CHILD ABUSE INJURIES. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS TO HAPPEN!
