Yes it is true that we need some sort of deterrent from drivers to slow down in built up areas - more so where there may be children, but are speed bumps really the answer? Here is five main reasons why we do not want them! 1. Ambulance's may take longer to get to the sick and as we all know every second counts in some cases plus if you have a bad injury example: neck broken bones etc.. it must hurt going over them bumps and slows you down on the way back to hospital. 2. Police, Fire Brigade and any other emergency are risking lives just for those few seconds lost. 3. Most of our cars are not made for off road and that's what its like in some areas with non stop speed bumps. I myself drive over at least 50 speed bumps every day so that's a massive 18,250 speed bumps in one year so just imagine what that's doing to your car and its safety the damage your doing to your car over time effects your suspension, bushes, brakes, tyres, and exhaust. 5. exhaust emissions, stopping then accelerating very bad for the environment. 6. The noise, if you are one of the unlucky ones that have a speed bump outside your house you will know what I mean about the noise example: 5-6 am in the morning hearing the clonk rattle and banging of the work van, trucks and lorries going over the bumps. I could go on finding other reasons why we do not want speed bumps and I'm sure you have some of your own reasons but we do need something to slow down brain dead drivers so why not speed cameras and I don't mean the them bright yellow ones that sit in the middle of the road - they are a waste of time because most of us know where they are and slow down before reaching them and then speed up again, I mean a camera that will calculate your speed from start to finish of the road in small built up areas so example if you were in a 30 mph speed limit zone and you were driving at 40-50 mph you receive a fine but if you were doing 60 mph+ you receive a fine and some points on your licence, if that system was in force our roads would look better your children would be safer and all the problems above would come to a end.
