Everyone should be allowed to wear what they want to wear. Nobody should be told what to wear or not to wear.

Wot has changed this year from all previous years
This is a clear injustice and taking the freedom from the girls...there should be some amount of sympathy with religious rights that the girls are adhering and feels the needs to fulfil..

This rule of wearing a certain type of scarf is wrong. Students attend school for education not for their apearance. Yes i agree the teachers want the student to look smart and be well presented for school which is why they wear a blazer shirt jumper tie etc. But scarf shouldnt matter as this is coming in between their religion. A girl should wear a scarf without feeling insecure or being laughed at. As most of us will agree to this, many girls will be mocked at because of the new scarves which is not acceptable and teachers should be more aware about that. RE-EVALUATE THIS SITUATION AND ALLOW THE STUDENTS AND FAMILY VOTE FOR KEEPING THESE SCARVES OR NOT.

Hi i would just like to say i find it ridiculous how the sjt new school scarf has been part of the school policy. The new scarf policy is desgined to keep girls who wear the hijab safe? When has there ever been a problem with the normal scarfs the girls have worn there is no such thing as health and safety in wearing a scarf. The new scarf is to short which isnt how the scarf should be worn it should be modest im pretty sure the equality and diversity policy states that "all people should be treated fairly and with respect and have the right to follow their religion" so i dont see sir john thursby following this rule. I am so disgraced!

The current situation could have been avoided if there had been open dialogue with parents and students. Before I signed the petition I had a look at the school approved hijab. It is immediately obvious that is is far too tight and not at all user friendly. It is somewhat similar to some sports hijabs I have that are really uncomfortable. Why haven't the student body been consulted?
If the rest of the uniform isn't fire retardant then why is there a requirement that the hijab needs to be?
A meeting needs to be held with senior management to discuss this.
Hopefully common sense will prevail, and the school can agree on a hijab which complies on grounds of colour and fabric.
During PE pupils could be required to wear an all in one hijab.
During Science lessons pupils should be required to tuck their hijabs, just as one would with hair etc.
A trial run should be carried out by those people that are expected to wear it and they should be the ones giving feedback.
School should be a partnership between pupils, teachers and parents, let's hope the school start off by recalling these hijabs asking pupils for their ideas.
