I live near the corner of 7th Ave and 22nd St and on numerous occasions have had cars speed around the corner and come close to striking me in the crosswalk. Have also witnessed this happening to others. Drivers do not realize there is a crosswalk or people around the corner as there is not sign warning them of this and they can not see. Someone recently placed their own sign warning drivers to proceed with caution and I noticed cars slowing and looking before proceeding. This is a very dangerous intersection and I am so happy the woman who was hit was not severely injured or worse. What else can we do about this?? I would like to help any way I can. I am pregnant and can't bare to think what it will be like to worry about crossing the street with a child. Please email me if I can be of assistance. I would be happy to try to gather more signatures and become more involved.

supporting this petition, due to highly traffic block we have and all cars that come down our block are speeding!. This will prevent an accident or death from occurring on our block.

For 20 years, we have complained about cars speeding down the block. A stop sign on the corner and a speed bump on 22nd between 6th and 7th are both way over due. There are too many kids on the block to ignore the dangers any longer.

We need a speed bump! Cars speed down our block all the time. There are so many children on our block and we need to keep them safe!

I see near misses on a weekly basis at this intersection. It is basically a blind turn since parked cars block the driver's line of sight until the moment they turn.

Since moving into this neighborhood eight years ago I cross the intersection of 22nd Street and Seventh Avenue almost daily. It is a very dangerous location for pedestrians as cars speed around the corner because there is no stop sign there. One is desperately needed. Cars and trucks park right up to the corner so cars approaching 22nd Street on 7th Avenue cannot see pedestrians in the crosswalk. This location s a tragedy waiting to happen. A stop sign is truly needed and why DOT can't understand this is beyond me.

I too was recently hit by a car (3rd St. & 4th Ave.) and spent 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital. I'm still recovering, have to take pain killers and physical therapy. Pedestrian accidents are simply way too common. Drivers are simply not diligent enough.

I was walking south on 7th Avenue when Edwin, a cab driver with Eastern Car Service, hit me with his SUV. He was turning right (northwest) from 7th Avenue onto 22nd Street. At this corner, 7th Avenue turns into a one-way street and drivers are forced to turn right onto 22nd St. There are no stop signs or traffic signals. It was raining and dark outside, and the driver did not see me as he was turning. The hood of my raincoat was over my head to protect me from the rain, and I did not have any peripheral vision to see the car coming.
Luckily, he did not run me over, although he was close. The car hit my right hip and I fell onto the pavement on my right side. I experienced injuries in the soft tissue of my lower back and neck, making it very painful to stand up and sit down. My left hip was severely misaligned and had to be popped back into place by my chiropractor. I have also experienced emotional distress, as the entire experience was obviously traumatic.
I request to The Councilman’s office that a traffic signal or stop sign be placed at the corner of 22nd Street and 7th Avenue to prevent further accidents from happening on this intersection.
