I was very concerned last year when I received a letter from the school requesting longer skirts "to protect the dignity and self respect of girls in our care". Dignity and self respect?! This is setting women back 50 years. You are sexualising girls' bodies by saying they should be covered up. They are just legs - teach them instead that their legs are for walking, running, playing sports etc and that self respect comes from achieving your goals and being kind to others.

Totally disagree with skirt ban! What is wrong with a piece of clothing! It is pathetic!

Don't ban skirts because they are sexy and help me get through the school day.

I think skirts should be allowed as there is nothing wrong with them and parents could be spending their money on better things like revision guides instead of trousers for their children. If male teachers have a problem then they can go work somewhere else!!!!!

Shame on the people who have come up with this. You will be covering girls's faces next.

I agree entirely with this petition. It's one thing giving students the choice between wearing trousers or a skirt, it's another to ban skirts entirely. What you're actually doing is teaching impressionable girls and boys that rape is justifiable on account of what someone is wearing - this is completely unacceptable. What should be happening, is further educating students not to just see women as sexual objects, and for these girls to learn that they have the freedom to wear skirts without feeling as though they are provoking unwarranted antisocial behaviour.

This is LUDICROUS! Next - Industries across the country will be telling their female employees that they will not be allowed to wear skirts/dresses! This is bang out of order! :-(

This is ridiculous, I have attended this school and the guidelines just get more and more insane. I was put into isolation for my hair being to ginger (I dye it and it was quite bright, but I'd had the colour for over a Year), as well as a close friend who is genderfluid (born male) who wore a skirt at the proper length to school and was told to go home and change because it wasn't within his uniform guidelines. I am now at college where there is no dress code, people wear anything from pyjamas to revealing dresses, and surprise surprise, people still get their work done; proving these regulations unnecessary. Stop the over sexualisation of women, the discrimination to the transgender community, and the encouragement of rape culture.

One more step towards Sharnbrook Upper School becomes an oppressive, communist regime. Every student has a number, a uniform and no name.

How can a school ban an item of clothing that has been deemed acceptable for hundreds of years. Sharnbrook School is not above social code.

I can't believe that anyone would think that men and male students getting uncomfortable around girls in skirts is even remotely okay this is unbelievably - stop sexualising young girls!!

Ridiculous! Promoting rape culture., instead of teaching that someone wearing a skirt is sexual, you should be teaching morals! Bloody insane.
