I went to Nepal in September 2011, to adopt a 4 year old blind girl from Bal Mandir orphanage, and the process took me 11 months to complete. I was allowed to visit Bal Mandir and it came to light that my daughter had been sexually abused and I have hospital evidence that she has been raped by a senior member of the adoptions staff team. I have come to realise that this is merely the 'tip of the iceberg' in terms of the kinds of human rights abuses occuring in Nepal day by day. A shocking statistic is that 1 in 2 women in Nepal are sexually abused. All of the teenage girls have also been abused by the same man, but they will not speak out, they are too scared. My daughter will become the voice of all women and children in Nepal. STOP this abuse of children and women NOW! Speak out! My daughter's visa to the UK has been refused, and so I am here in the UK on my own, and she is in a safe place in Nepal. As a woman I CAN do something about this here in the UK. I can do nothing in Nepal, I do not have a voice, and my little very vulnerable daughter is completely invisable there.

The momentum behind this petition proves that the world is finally waking up to the depravity at Bal Mandir. The people in charge of these institutions have hidden behind their power for far too long, but they cannot silence us anymore.

We eliminated Nepal from the list of countries we would adopt from because of the prevalence of child trafficking, particularly at Bal Mandir. I was happy to see the announcement of the arrest of an official there and assumed the government was finally recognizing these crimes. I'm so sorry I was wrong. This is so much worse. I'm so very sorry for your daughter's pain and that of all the other children abused by those who were trusted to care for them.

This is completely heartbreaking. I cant even imagine what that poor girl is going through. Someone needs to be held accountable for this right now.
