Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is not an appropriate use of our public parks, sidewalks and other right-of-ways. While I understand the need to try to do something about the homeless situation, it should not come at the expense of those of us who are paying taxes and contributing to the financial health of Seattle. Taxpayers and homeowners need to have their rights recognized and respected, too. The fact that ONLY Tim Burgess has spoken out against this is very disturbing to me as a property owner in Seattle. Common sense please.

There are PLENTY of resources for homeless and or drug addicted persons in Seattle. STOP ENABLING them by saying they can defacate, sleep, and leave their trash for others to deal with. Take a trip to Detroit, that's what Seattle has to look forward to if you let transients do as they please.

Absolute NO on allowing our parks and playfields to turn into a place of drugs, indecency, and garbage. Unfortunately, many homeless people use drugs and alcohol, and the artifacts of that will be everywhere! Where are the children supposed to play if we have to constantly worry about drug needles, condoms, and other stuff laying around? Homeless people with mental issues are often dangerous. By allowing encampments the council puts our kids and all seattlelites in great danger!

I am opposed to this ordinance. As a law abiding citizen, who pays taxes, with small children, I feel that this ordinance takes away my rights and the rights of our children feel safe in our city. This seems to prioritize the rights of a few over the rights of many. What comes along with camping....human waste and garbage. It is not just people and tents that could be in our parks, but unsanitary conditions.

Please do not allow this to happen it will ruin the parks and cause safety and health issues. Be smart and find another solution, this is a cop out by city leaders!

As an active voter and tax payer in Seattle, I do not support allowing camping in public parks.

This does not sound like a good solution. In fact it sounds like it will make the situation worse.

Amazing to me that our city would even consider such a thing, especially with Portland's disastrous outcome of the same plan. I question the IQ's and common sense of our mayor and city council. Time to recall, impeach!

Homeless people should be camping in designated areas with services available. The parks should be used by all city people for recreation and relaxation, not for camping. It poses great public health threat as the human feces and needles from drug use will be everywhere. Regards, Pavla Ceskova

Sick and tired of Seattle looking like a filth trap. Will need a whole new dump just for the homeless garbage. So disgusting. I will not be voting to support parks in the future if camping is allowed.

This is not a real solution to the homeless issue facing Seattle.

Homelessness deserves real solutions, not stop-gap measures that fail to address the problem. Removal procedures are inadequate and impossible to enforce.

THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER. It is unsanitary,a public danger, and no way for anyone to live. We need to go back to the drawing board, (immediately!) and organize a program to take a camp at a time, help the mentally ill by getting them to a place where we can treat their illness. We need to take others to shelters until we can create permanent housing for those that want help. For those that do not want help, and want to stay on streets, that have to move on and find another place to camp. It has always been illegal to camp on the streets and throw garbage on the ground. We could give paid jobs to the homeless that want a job, but letting them clean up these illegal encampments. It is a sad time in our City that we have let this problem get so out of hand, making the homeless believe that they could live like this. Nancy Johnson Seattle, WA.

NO!!!!! Surely the City can come up with other places for homeless encampments. Why should we taxpayers, who pay dearly to maintain and develop these lovely places for everyone's outdoor relaxation and respite, have to suffer because our city is being overrun by people choosing to use our systems and resources, at no cost and without regard to the vast majority of its citizens? Why is this even being considered? Why is the ever-increasing homeless community being given so much more consideration and comfort?? I am totally opposed. Enough already. Whoever put out the Welcome mat in Seattle needs to take it back.

Our city already looks like a garbage dump, how is this helpful. Enough is enough!

This proposal is outrageously irresponsible and must not be put into law.
