We have a really bad homelessness problem. However, creating smaller versions of "The Jungle" in City Parks where our children play is not a solution. I don't like the fact that third parties with narrow interests that don't reflect the general public's health, safety and welfare - the general public that votes and whose taxes fun the City.

A better solution for housing homeless must be found. This plan is not complete because you have no where for the people to go and no infrastructure if people are in parks. There's no garbage disposal and not enough toilets. You need a more complete plan. Look at what has happened in Portland.

Parks are parks, not campgrounds. We should have fixed this issue years ago by requiring new development allot 10% of units as low-income. We should invest in a solution now, not ruin our parks while we wait.

My thoughtful children and I see plenty of mentally ill people and homeless people in Seattle proper and while walking around in town. Allowing them to camp in the parks is not a solution! This ever growing problem needs expanded mental health care help and more progressive homeless shelters for them.

I expect the City Council to represent the families who live in Seattle and use our open spaces for recreation.

Nothing against the homeless as we need to find real homes for them and also help them become independent earners and contributors. This is the real solution leaders need to be working on! But the fact of the matter is that families (Who pay taxes for these parks and streets) and children do not mix with petty criminals, rapists, and heroin syringe needles. If this law passes and you (City Council) see these groups (Tax payers and homeless) clashing violently, then do not be surprised later. We need you (City Council) to be real leaders and innovators here. Why even pass laws that are not solutions to a problem as solutions? And to be fair, what is the tax payer’s benefit with you (City Council) passing this law? If this doesn’t make sense to our 4 year old, I don’t know how you (City Council), a group of professional adults make sense of this?

As a Harborview nurse, I daily care for homeless individuals. Many have fallen through the mental health HOLE that prevails in our nation. Many are addicted to multiple substances. Areas where homeless people congregate are filled with litter, filth and this poses a public health risk to them and the surrounding environment. There is a grave risk to our neighborhoods, families, elderly and children should this be passed into law. Please consider an alternative that will proactively motivate homeless citizens toward a positive living environment.

See what kind of mess homelessness in mendocino and humboldt counties have to deal with. DO NOT LEGALIZE homeless camping and vagrancy. You will literally be inviting vermin to stay if you do.

Please keep the homeless out of City Parks.
It's just not safe for kids.

My son plays football at Interbay and there have been numerous accounts where tents, drug paraphenalia are on the field during practice. Coaches have sent emails out numerous times of picking our children up immediately after practice due to safety concerns. Many of the parks in our neighborhood are also adjacent to the middle schools or the field is directly part of the school (McClure, Coe) which is a community gathering place before and after school which also is not set up for success.

This bill is inhumane and dangerous for the homeless, unsafe for green space and sidewalk users and civically irresponsible.

I visit Seattle for pleasure and business and always have enjoyed the parks and do not want to see them turned into homeless encampments.

Already impossible to walk the intersection of Denny and 2nd Ave in Belltown across the street from the Seattle Center.
Some of the homeless people camping there do not seem mentally stable. If you want to encourage citizens to walk instead of driving around downtown you should do something about sidewalks not being available to the pedestrians. The city already looks like a giant homeless camp.

Please keep our streets and public spaces safe and clean. Public camping has not worked in Portland, San Francisco or Honolulu. I know of no cities where it has worked. We are begging for more short and long term housing and safe drug sites for Seattle'a homeless people.
