Deep East Oakland will be affected by a proposed Train relocation. Amtrak is planning to move its trains from its existing tracks in Sobrante Park to tracks owned by Union Pacific. This change will bring noise, pollution, and traffic back-ups at the street crossings. All of this will only save Amtrak 13 minutes. This short amount of time is not worth the decline in quality of life that all people and businesses along the rail will feel!
The deadline for the first public comment is August 13, 2020.
Stand in solidarity Sogorea Te' Land Trust, Brower- Dellums Institute, Planting Justice, and others to demand concessions that will help the people they are affecting. Show support for the community along the rail and spread the petition!

I stand in solidarity with Sogorea Te' Land Trust, Brower- Dellums Institute, Planting Justice who have raised concerns about the social and environmental impacts of this project. The needs of the people in Oakland, including the Indigenous and Black people who steward land in East Oakland must be made a priority.
This will have huge impacts south in San Leandro and Hayward and seems totally nonsensical: abandoning longstanding Amtrak passenger terminals to freight trains and putting long, slow freight trains through urban centers next to BART and bus lines. What could possibly be the reason for this change?
I'm a native East Oakland resident that currently stay in the nearby neighborhood of North Stonehurst. I was looking forward to the San Leandro Creek Urban Greenway opening so that I could take my God Son on a safe bike ride to the Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline.
“Conditions on 105th St., where the proposed route runs behind Planting Justice is already intolerable, particularly during times when children are being dropped off and picked up from school. Grid-lock is a daily occurrence during stated times!”
Be accountable to our neighborhood!!! Provide a sound barrier wall, trees and other sustainable vegetation/plants to make the area aesthetically pleasing!!!!
Listen to the people!
Deep East Oakland is home to essential workers across the bay area. Our beautiful neighborhood has already suffered enough with illegal dumping, pollution, and noise that's already frequent in our streets. Building this railroad not only amplifies this in our community, but also prevents our neighborhood from flourishing; better funding for schooling, cleaning up our streets, providing decent housing, all things that build towards a better quality of life that Deep East Oakland desperately needs. The short-term efficiencies gained from the train relocation will never repair the damage that will be experienced for decades to come if the city moves forward with the project. I urge you not to proceed with this project and give struggling communities an opportunity to grow. Please do not abandon our neighborhood and undermine positive change in our community by relocating routes here.

Work with and for the communities around you whom you would be directly impacting; modify your plan in direct collaboration with Sogorea Te' Land Trust, Brower- Dellums Institute, and Planting Justice.
