Stop Racist U.S. Prof. Qadri Ismail who wrote "F*** You President Gotabaya Rajapaksa"

I actually was a graduate student at the University of Minnesota when he was the director of graduate studies. I didn't see him as overtly racist, but he was pretty rude and nasty to everybody, including me. He didn't seem to have much respect for anybody who had differing opinions. It seems to me as if he used his tenured position to rant about Sri Lankan politics.

The immediate cause of this unprecedentedly high percentage of public debt has obviously been the collapse of government revenue by as much as 40% due to those indiscriminate tax-cuts introduced in December 2019, which in turn has also led to a budget deficit of staggering 11.1% of the GDP. Again, the effective budget deficit, when adjusted for the overdue debt service payments, would rise to 14% of GDP. The sudden death of Sri Lankan journalist, Professor Qadri Ismail in the United States,came as a great shock to the media world. According to his friends in Minnesota,Ismail had told them that he would come for an evening cup of tea on Monday and never turned up. Later, when they tried to call him, there was no answer and subsequently they found him dead in his apartment. Back home, Ismail, who was a well-known journalist had served at most of the media houses in the island. People’s attention were drawn towards Ismail for his independent reporting and also for his style of writing with his English Honours degree at the Peradeniya University. He also covered the ethnic war in Sri Lanka before he moved to the USA. He was the son of late Proctor Shakir Ismail and Fazeera Ismail, he had also authored the new Galle Fort Cookery book. Ismail was associate professor of English at the University of Minnesota, USA, and has also been a journalist in Sri Lanka. His areas of specialty include cultural studies, postcolonial literature, literary theory, gender/sexuality, historiography, democracy, human rights, the enlightenment, the British 19th century and cricket. He was an old boy of S. Thomas College, Mt.Lavinia.

This Prof was not the only one who has a different opinion. There are many others. Truth must prevail. Tisaranee Gunasekara’s column under Patriot, Bared dated May 23, published in Colombo Telegraph is undoubtedly one of the most illuminating pieces of journalism that combined facts with a lot of truth-telling. A portrayal of a perishing island, focus on the malignancies of a regime so bent on making profits at the expense of those who voted them to power and a ruthless analysis of a malfunctioning government are all enunciated in the most understandable lingo, Tisaranee, as always, never pulls her punches nor does she give any quarter where such is not necessary. Yet, the abysmal truth is the caravan keeps meandering along the same old path of corruption, nepotism and dishonesty, towards the same goal: profits and more profits. Therein lies the bitter misfortune. Avarice and indulgence in appalling cruelties go hand in hand and the ‘Cabal’ does not seem to comprehend the nuances of human behavior; or they simply reject the opportunity to employ curative measures when such processes are deemed imminent.

It is about academic freedom, and freedom of expression. This is the 21st century not the 15th century, even though in many countries, it is like the 15th century. How many journalists were abused and killed in Sri Lanka and many other countries?

Religions have been taken over by the Priest’s, Mo is abs Mullahs. The politicians have latched on to it as the ignorant masses are all for. So far nobody got to Heaven or was reborn. It is all illusion. This is the disgrace. It is the job of the academics to point out this deception, just the same way Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler pointed out and clarified it.

Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Jews etc. are brainwashed in their respective cultures, religions, ideologies and theologies. No wonder Philosopher, lover of wisdom, Karl Marx said, “ Religion is the opium of the masses “. The populace is too poor to get high on real physical opium, and the monks, priest and the Mullahs feed them “free” religious opium, in order to maintain their hegemony. The cunning politicians, latch on to that, and the populace, the suckers, fall for that. Has any dead soul gone to heaven, hell or was reborn? So far the there is no evidence. The Jihadi suckers have fallen for that, along with many others from the other religions, based on their theologies. This is madness.

Academic freedom requires one to present alternate views, not always the politically or religiously correct views. Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler and countless others did that. If anybody has a problem digesting alternate views about ideologies, theologies, politicians, science etc., then they should examine their critical thinking skills to overcome their brainwashed views, in light of evidence. While it is hard to accept the hard-hitting language, the truth must prevail. Is what is stated closer to the truth? In Buddhism, being truthful goes beyond simply not telling lies. It means speaking truthfully and honestly, yes.. Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler did that. Did The Prof do that? Is there supporting evidence? If not, it is false speech.

Stop Galileo and Copernicus from spreading false information about the Catholic Church’s position that the sun goes around the earth. Copernicus, Galileo and Prof, do you have evidence abs data about your hypothesis? Ask the disappeared journalists?
