Stop Proposed Spearfish Canyon Gold/Cyanide Mine

The mining company, Deadwood Standard Project, is proposing to contaminate the beautiful Spearfish Canyon with cyanide and other chemical toxins that would seep forth into spearfish creek from leaky concrete vats at the site – 500 feet from the near-pristine water – for eight years.

Cyanide has contaminated underground and surface waterways for years from gold mining leaks in the Black Hills and this small operation is not worth polluting such a significant cultural and tourist site, such as Spearfish Canyon.

The black hills and all water sources are sacred to the Lakota Nation and Peoples and should be respected. The 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie also prevents this type of genocidal activity from occurring (see Article VI of the U.S. Constitution “supreme law of the land…states [environmental & natural resources dep’t] bound thereby”).

Contact the South Dakota state Department of Natural Resources in Pierre and the city of Spearfish and urge them to halt the proposal to insure a safe, clean, and beautiful area for future generations.

Stop the continuing desecration and abuse of Grand Mother Earth and the human beings who live upon her.
