Stop Portland City Council from Ignoring Neighborhood Associations

If neighborhood associations are sufficiently inclusive, give us tools to grow and become better! Be a partner for change and improvement, don't shut us down!

Without effective NAs Portlanders have no local representation.

Do not defund our Neighborhood Associations in Portland.

Portland’s neighborhood associations provide a vital means of effective civic participation. If additional affinity groups would expand participation, then it makes sense for the City to foster these as well. This isn't an either/or proposition.

The committee should seek to work in partnership with Neighborhood Associations and other organizations within the city to meet their goals of greater inclusivity, representation, and engagement by diverse populations. Instead they are seeking to cut the legs out from some of the most engaged groups as Neighborhood Associations have a real potential to improve civic engagement and representation for all members of our community.

We absolutely need to keep our neighborhood associations!

I'd like to see the definition of "devastating" as used by Suk Rhee. It's just plain wrong and should not be used by City Council.

The City's desire to foster equity-based affinity groups doesn't mean that neighborhood organizations should be jettisoned. This isn't an either/or proposition.

Portland does not listen to its citizens anymore so that in the last two years, it seems to have totally changed, in a negative way. The neighborhoods need more voice not less!

We are not all rich white people. In my neighborhood association, residents of low income housing are involved and are supported. Be leaders and bring people IN to democratic governance. Pull people up. Don’t push involved concerned members of the community down or divide us based on inaccurate stereotypes.

There needs to be more public forums and opportunities for questions and comments re: proposed changes under Code 3.96. There needs to be more public engagement and transparency about why/how the new systems would be better in creating more inclusive citizen involvement.

Protect neighborhood associations! No to changing Code 3.96!

In order for the city to serve it's people, it must listen to their voices.

I live in a high crime area and the neighborhood association has been the best way of getting help. I pay a very large tax bill and yet battle homeless camps and crime daily

Communities need a reliable, recognized group structure for civic participation!

STOP RUINING PORTLAND! One of our treasures of living in the city limits is improving our lives by knowing/working with our neighbors. I am able to remember the days when the suburbs were the live ability choice in Portland. The Cit Limits were dangerous places to live.

It's been a national model for 40+ years, leave it alone.

Do not undermine hardworking and caring citizens.

We do not make a better city by sidelining the communities who compose it. Silencing the voices of citizens is the opposite of inclusiveness.
