Stop Portland City Council from Ignoring Neighborhood Associations

Portland council doesn’t like listening to tax-paying citizens, neighborhood associations must stay as they are!

Neighborhood association are a vehicle for citizens to voice their opinions. Please leave them intact.

Neighborhood Associations are an important part of two way communication between the people, the residents, business, and all to communicate with our local officials, and for them to communicate back to us. This is a valuable asset to our community, let's not lose it.

Neighborhood associations play a crucial role in the healthy development of our city.

We receive so much important news from our neighborhood associations and the communication is vital.

Far too much benefit will be lost of NAs--and the constituents they represent--are disenfranchised from their longstanding position within th structure of city government. They remain the only liaison between city hall and the neighborhoods, which is critical to a complete and responsible information flow.

NAs aren't perfect, but they provide a mechanism for communication between the city and neighbors who may be personally affected by city actions. City Council may not like what neighbors say, but it's up to Council to convince people about their point of view.

There was not enough input about this illogical proposal made by one city commissioner. The associations should be strengthened. Not everyone belongs to a special interest group but we are all a citizen of Portland.

The neighborhood associations are an important way for citizens to express their views, communicate with city leaders, and learn about city and environmental needs and issues.

I am not a very active member of the Marshall Park NA, and I think that the auditing department did not consider those of us who do keep an eye on the activities! I do read the minutes of every meeting.

Please do not take away the voice Portland residents have through their neighborhood associations. As free public servants to their community, our association leaders speak for us in ways our elected officials cannot. We know what's best for our neighborhoods, and want to see them continue to thrive!

I support Portland's Neighborhood Associations and transparency in government. Please rethink the Code Change strategy.

The City of Portland needs to continue supporting neighborhood associations (NAs) across the city and provide them adequate resources to expand their outreach through technology (such as live streaming of meetings, pod casts, and call in participation). Retain the requirement for public involvement standards for all recognized Community Groups, including NAs, as open elections, 7-day notices, and posting of minutes helps build the democratic foundation for recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council. NAs and Business Districts are the ONLY geographically based grass roots organization that holds both the City Council accountable, since they are all elected at large. NAs are the heart of the Portland public involvement system and Cloe Eudaly's hand selected Code Committee was designed to deny long term community activists (including at least 1 Native American and 1 Asian American) participation as a Committee Member. Please, Act Now!!

Maintain strong neighborhood associations. It iis a requirement for democracy.
