Stop Portland City Council from Ignoring Neighborhood Associations

Support neighborhood associations. Bill needs more review and input.

Pleease lets start monthly or bimonthly meetings around town...we need to stay informed /engaged

As Wendell Berry has written, "You can't know who you are if you don't know where you are." Neighborhoods are how humans care for their surroundings. It's how we protect ecosystems and create a livability city that is healthy not just for humans, but for all species.

Neighborhood Associations in Portland protect the interests of the rich, the white, the home owning and the most selfish of the city. Keep rockin with your hateful selves! Nothing can stop you, send them home! maga2020

If there were issues of power or representation between 2 spouses, would your solution be divorce? That’s the severity of the NA action that’s proposed. It is a short-sighted, naive, and simplistic approach to an historically nuanced and complicated situation. Don’t.do.it.

Each neighborhood is different. We the people of Multnomah represent our community. We are the ones that can speak to how we would like to see change because we live day in and out here. It is impractical to have others that don't live here making decisions that impact the living viability of community. Our neighborhood association is comprised of individuals with whom the citizens of our neighborhood feel are trustworthy, well informed and yes, transparent.

We need neighborhood associations to help keep builders/developers from having their way and ruining our extraordinary city with its distinctive, lovely neighborhoods.

As a very long time neighborhood activist and association office in Eliot, I am strongly opposed to this proposal. The City has no efficient or effective method to engage with its residents outside of NA. Displacing them with one-off, self-selected, or worse hand-picked individuals alleged to "represent" their neighbors is an awful idea.

Neighborhood associations have provided local input to the City on important issues facing it. Eliminating them would mean these diverse opinions from all areas of the City would be most likely lost. It's important this input be maintained.

I served on and participated in neighbors coming together at Assoc. meetings and events and outreach. Without the formal arrangement, many people would not join and speak. What other forum does the city suggest? Why the intentional blurring and fragmenting? I hear the director of neighborhood communications suggests that associations promote inequality. Hum.

Yes other organizations need a seat at the table but Neighborhood Associations should not have the city code changed on them. They work well and for all in their neighborhood.

I don't want to see Portland residents' voices defused by cutting or limiting the influence of neighborhood associations with local government.

Neighborhood associations need more not less say in how things are done in Portland.

Neighborhood associations and coalitions are the only truly geographical representation within the civic engagement process. Civic engagement must require transparency and not come from closed door back rooms.

I want to keep Portland neighborhood associations strong because they represent the citizens of the neighborhood.

I absolutely love my neighborhood association. One of the very best things about Portland. No changes, please!
