This song was released in 1973 and it has been played every year for the last 43 years. I am terrified that this song will continue to blight every Christmas for the rest of my life. I dread hearing it each year, and actively avoid shops and other places and situations where it might be played. Noddy Holder and Jim Lea each net an average £250,000 per annum in royalties for a song that isn't even that good, but has been overplayed to the extent that people have come to associate it with the very meaning of Christmas. The only circumstance in which we should tolerate repeated playing of this song is if ALL royalties henceforth are donated to charity. My signature target for this petition represents the average number of pounds in royalties generated each year.
