Bethel, Hillsong, and Elevation are cults that teach heresy. When we play their music (including Phil Wickham, Kari Jobe, Cory Asbury, Josh Baldwin, etc.) in chapel we are giving money to them via CCLI royalties. Bill Johnson (pastor of Bethel) has admitted that the reason for their music is to bring people into their church. This is their evangelism tool to bring people from biblically sound churches into their cults. The Bible says to mark and avoid false teachers and that we should not be inviting them in. Please sign this petition if you would like to stop the support of these heretical ministries by Cedarville University.

If you could please be charitable in the comments. This should reflect a Christ honoring discussion.
Also, to the Cedarville news sources. This is not about going to the market place and not asking if the meat was sacrificed unto idols. This is about worshiping The Holy God. These are heretics we are letting in to teach us. That is what worshiping through music is. I would love to have an open conversation with any of these news sources. The emails I receive from concerned students continue to pile up and show that we are not alone in this conviction. It is exhausting work to keep pushing against the administration but the truth remains the truth regardless of how long they choose to remain silent.

Reaching this level of support has been a long and draining process. Seeing so many people recognize the truth of this matter makes the exhaustion feel worthwhile.

I’ve seen the damage these “churches” do to people. They are wrapped in eastern mysticism and emotionalism. Just listen to the lies their leaders say about the Persons of the Trinity and about signs. They preach the dangerous prosperity gospel. Their music is designed to draw people in to believing their lies. Flee from this. I wholeheartedly support this petition.
Music communicates theology! We need to be discerning of what the lyrics are saying. Vague and emotionally driven lyrics do little to teach us worship our Lord rightly! A person's music will only ever be a sound as their knowledge of our God. This is why it is imperative we select what we listen to, sing and worship with together carefully!
I think it is very unfair generalization to label these groups and artists as cults and ALL of their songs heretical. Some songs from these groups are in fact God-centered and quite impactful, at least to me.
Yes, from what I've heard, these groups have a watered-down Gospel. It's true that their songs may encourage people, drive emotions, and have a nice tune, but we need to remember our depravity as sinners. We should worship the Lord in humility, asking Him to help us obey and be sanctified. Our worship songs should reflect that and be about submission to the Holy Spirit.
Also when heart song sings songs in general it tends to be a performance rather than actual worship. For example last "worship" chapel made me feel like I was at a rock concert with the screaming singing and flashing lights. It's all a performance and talking with emotional voices and not about worship.
I am an alumni, and I have thought this since I was at Cedarville. Never thought about a petition though.
While I won't make the claim that every worship song that is not from these churches is still theologically sound, I believe that it is important to worship with music that is not associated with current heresies and cults. Worship is a beautiful practice of the Christian faith, and it is just as important to carefully examine a song's theological connections as any other practice in the church, or chapel in this case.

I would rather worship with a song that everybody knows than just stand there and read off a screen. Also the many of the songs don't have much depth to them. Please sing some hymns.
