Officer safety should be the priority, as with all these recent incident happened in NY and Canada. We serve as public servant. Parking shouldn't be charged to people protecting their own country. Port Athourity charge so much money for everything. They are there because Govt. is providing their services for Airports. They are already genrating so much revenew for them, from all other fees.

Its not about money solely. It's about Officer safety simply put. We should be granted a parking area that allows us to be protected from those who might want to do us harm especially being located in NYC an area known to be the target of many international threats amongst other types; government employees being a target of many anti government extremists, and law enforcement personnel a target of many anarchist extremist (read the news paper articles from across the nation as of recent). CBP officers at JFK are a combination of all three and yet we can't get an isolated or better secured parking facility. So we request at least a waiver on parking payment because it seems like not only do we come to work to secure the nation, but we come and pay admission to be put in possible harms way by having us parked with the general and unscreened public. It doesn't seem right that we come to work and pay fees to be at work as a law enforcement agency or as a government bureau based at an airport who's international operation would not have purpose without CBP's function being designated on location.

I work as a Customs and Border Protection Officer at JFK International Airport, assigned to multiple locations, in the same day, some practically accessible only by POV. I have been dropping $150.00 at a time for vital and necessary parking privileges for eight years now, only to be routinely insulted at the toll booths by being called “Non Rev”.
“Non Rev” is exactly what our parking fee should be, considering these working conditions. Port Authority has maintained a free option for us in Long Term Parking, just to be able to say that we have a choice. If they don’t, they certainly ought to know that it’s not a choice at all. But now, even the “free” option is scheduled to disappear, in addition to tripling the other fees.
Please understand that most of my partners here are very upset at PA squeezing them between “a rock and a hard place”. We need these guys to be clear-headed, balanced, and at the top of their game to handle the multiple challenges with conflicting directives. And making us spend a chunk of every work day traveling between assignments, is to no one’s advantage.
The PA claims this tremendous price increase on federal law enforcement necessary, because they’re losing money. If they’re referring to us crowding out airport visitors, it’s a specious argument, because A) even on the busiest summer days, I don’t see the lots even close to 50% capacity. The rooftop levels for example, are almost always empty, or nearly empty. And when they’re used, it’s primarily by our vehicles; and B) if they’re losing money, how long before they triple it again, and again? Our monthly $70 can’t possibly satisfy them for long, if they think it sacrifices multiple daily $33.00 charges.
Or, if they’re referring to the revenue from parking fees paid by CBP, the new $70 yearly revenue from roughly 2000 officers between JFK and EWR is an approximate 4% OF 1% of the $315 million parking fees collected by PA in 2013. Not to mention the inexpressibly tiny

We provide a mandatory service to our country. We should not be charged to park in an area to facilitate trade, commerce and tourism. This astronomical increase is disgusting, a fee shouldn't even exist! Most of us park far away to avoid the dents and dings and damage from people resting their bags on their vehicles. Maybe, just maybe, we should all be suing port authority and 5 star parking for all the damage our personal vehicles have incurred over the years. That being said, if we have to go to the terminals for overtime or re-assignment, we should be afforded a government vehicle to travel or get back the mileage that we used to get or get a transit subsidy to pay for the parking fee that is being extorted from us on a monthly basis. We should never have to pay, ever, so to that end the government should put their foot down or no flights should get processed.

I am writing to you on behalf of more than 1,500 US Customs and Border Protection Officers, who currently patrol and protect our borders at John F. Kennedy International Airport, to address a pressing problem that we are facing at our place of service and employment, as well as at Newark International Airport in New Jersey.
Recently, the Port Authority of NY and NJ has announced a drastic increase in parking fees for my agency's officers. Currently, we pay $25.00 monthly, $300 annually, to utilize the short term parking facilities at the terminals. Additionally, long term parking is currently available for free to officers.
The fact that we have to pay a fee just to park our own vehicles, in and of itself is unjust, as the airport cannot conduct business without our presence and service. To add insult to injury, officers were recently notified via e-mail from US Customs and Border Protection that parking fees will be increasing this calendar year to $40.00 per month, and then another $15.00 per month each year for the next two years. Once the increase is fully implemented it will be a total of $70.00 a month, a full year total of $840 by 2017, for law enforcement officials to come to work, and perform our required duties. Long Term lots, which currently are free, will be charging $10 per month, for 2015, and increasing to $25 per month by 2017, leaving no free option at all. Although this option is not utilized by many, as it is very inconvenient to have to travel to a lot, via onsite public transportation, which adds an additional 15-20 minutes each way on an already long commute, just to arrive at your vehicle, at least offers an option for officers who can not financially take on the additional expense of parking, as the cost of travel by car is already astronomical, with gas prices on averag
