We have reached a place in time--worldwide--that any development on any coastline is an immediatel liability. This is due to a huge body of empirical evidence telling us of global warming and subsequent rising water levels. To consruct anything in these timeson any coastline or sub-sea level area, is totally irresponsibile environmentally and pure lunacy. If conservation is observed, while we could lose coastline(land), we can gain the means for future food sources and preserve and promote healthy ecco systems for the future. No one has been able to tell us even that rising water will cease to rise.

Clearly, Manatee County citizens need a central platform from which to advise our elected officials of those proposals that are either in or against the public interest of the residents these officials serve. In the case of Long Bar Pointe, any additional intensity is damaging to both public safety, as well as, the health of Sarasota Bay. The MAP amendment from residential to multi-use is, therefore, contrary to public interest. Remember, either a convention center or hotel may already be built on the opposite side of the road to this proposed project.

The Union of Concerned Scientists issued a fact sheet entitled "Florida: On the Front Lines of Sea Level Rise" which outlines the states extreme exposure to risks due to sea level rise in coastal communities. This study is dated October 2013.
The UNC also issued a 20 page report entitled
"Overwhelming Risk" Rethinking Flood Insurance in a
World of Rising Seas dated August, 2013. This report
outlines the increasing high risks to coastal areas
especially the East and Gulf Coasts. It is a rapidly
increasing risk that should not be ignored.

High-intensity, mixed-use development in our county is not something that should be considered for sensitive, undeveloped coastlines. Mixed use at Long Bar Pointe is mixed up.
