Put an End to Developers Controlling Plandome

Demand that Your Planning Board Represent Your Best Interests

Our village has a unique historical character.

Do we want to make it a village of new subdivisions that ignore our safety - and the safety of our familes?

At the May 8, 2017 Village Hall Meeting, members of our community voiced their opposition to the planned development at 1020 Plandome Road, (the former Kenney Property). The only attendees who were in favor of the planned development were the developers themselves. A three home development at 1020 Plandome Road had been approved many years ago and the developers wanted to make significant changes, including adding a 4th home and one common roadway at the worst blind spot on Plandome Road!

We are not fundamentally opposed to development - we are opposed to thoughtless and reckless, poorly planned development that puts ourselves and our families at risk.

The danger is created by the increased traffic pouring out on to Plandome Road at a blind spot on an already-busy section of Plandome Road. Adding a subdivision of homes in a high-density plan adds not only the cars of the homeowners, it adds the garbage trucks, delivery trucks, cars of visitors, etc. It increases the risk of an accident occurring as motorists get impatient waiting for traffic to subside. Moreover, increased traffic will be unavoidable on cut-through streets as Plandome Road will inevitably be blocked by both construction vehicles and an increase in cars and trucks from new residents - all pouring out on to Plandome Road at the WORST blind spot on the road.

We have the chance to demand the developers create a safe plan for cars entering and exiting on to Plandome Road — safe for all drivers, pedestrians, bikers, children waiting for school busses. If the current plan is approved, it’s an accident waiting to happen, so before it does, let’s settle on a safe and reasonable plan for 1020 Plandome Road!

Furthermore, 4 homes were recently added on The Terrace. The 3 or 4 homes on 1020 Plandome Road would add a staggering 7 or 8 new homes within close proximity of each other—all pouring traffic onto Plandome Road. Approving the current plan for 1020 Plandome Road will set a dangerous precedent of overdevelopment and affect all Plandome residents and those surrounding neighborhoods as well.

Plandome has retained its character for over 100 years. Let's not be the ones who stood idly by and let the charm and especially the safety of our village disintegrate. Stand with us and say, "Not on our watch!”
