Stop Ousting of Pier Road Historic District Shops in Jekyll Island

The way in which the Pier Rd shops were ambushed is one of the most unprofessional moves I have ever seen. These businesses aren’t just “buildings owned by the JIA. They are historic and the businesses in them are a big part of why people return year after year.

I’m saddened by this news. Part of what makes JI so unique is the quaint and noncommercialized businesses on the island. It’s one thing to make updates, but it’s another when you’re just transitioning JI into another SSI or Hilton Head. I believe that more transparency with the plans ahead May calm some of this down. The tenants deserve it after all.

The quietness and the little shops over in the historic district has always been a favorite part of our island trip during the holidays to see the lights. I'd hate to see the shops go and then that area become as busy and crowded as the convention center area

These shops are so special and this is a huge disappointment. Not to mention how demoralizing for the business owners. Shameful how they are being kicked out of Jekyll Island. It won’t be the same walking along the club grounds.

Unfair treatment of small business owners is not a great optic for an election year. Please encourage the governor to stop this from happening to these people.
