Please sign this to help me stop companies like Simply Be, Simply Yours, Fashion World, Fifty Plus, Marisota, Viva La Diva and many more sister sites under JD Williams from refusing to freeze interest on accounts for people who are in financial hardship. A couple of years ago after having a miscarriage, I dealt with it by buying clothes on an online catalogue company. It started with me buying things and paying for them immediately but I kept getting bought into buying more with the promotional 20% off discount codes etc and ended up having a credit account. Due to moving into an expensive flat with a private tenancy, I found that I couldn't meet the minimum payments. My balance was around £800. After a few months of pretending this would go away, despite several threatening letters and phone calls, I decided to try and tackle this head on. My balance had risen to over £2000 due to their unfair charges. I agreed to a payment plan with them to try and clear it and made several large lump sum payments of £300 - £400. I was pregnant so was keen to clear this before my daughter was born. Unfortunately due to developing a rare condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarium (severe morning sickness which leads to dehydration) I was hospitalised and subsequently signed off from work. The loss of income meant that I again defaulted on my payment plan which I did contact them to warn them it would happen. I've now had my daughter and I am on statutory maternity pay which is £135.25 per week. My partner had his contract terminated from his temporary position as a postman and has been told that he is not eligible for Jobseeker's allowance as I earn statutory maternity pay. This means that the three of us have to live off of my earnings per week meaning money is stretched to the maximum. Ontop of this, I am paying £46 per month to Simply Be (An amount that I have been struggling to afford but have been paying nonetheless) only to discover that for every £46 I pay, I get billed £42.56 meaning that only £3.44 comes off of my total balance of £1480ish per month. For this amount to come off every month, it would take me over 35 years to pay this off completely whilst still paying £46 per month. I explained to them that if they froze the interest and charges so that my full £46 per month were to come off of the bill, then it would take me just under 3 years to clear. Please sign this to help stop malicious companies like this from charging me unfairly as well as other poor customers who are also in my position. Times are incredibly hard at the moment and the majority of organisations have a procedure in place for negotiating charges with customers who can prove they are in financial hardship with income and expenditures, other debts, low incomes etc but not this one. I am on a mission to convince them to not only freeze my charges but to reach out to other people who have an account in collections with any of the catalogues mentioned above. Thank you
