Dear [Officials], We, the residents of Oak Island, North Carolina, are writing this petition to express our concern regarding the proposed construction of a hotel on the island. Our community has a small and narrow road system, and we believe that the influx of tourists and additional traffic from a hotel would severely impact the quality of life for our residents. We understand that the hotel would bring economic benefits to the area, but we strongly believe that the negative impacts of increased traffic would outweigh any potential benefits. The already congested roadways on the island would be unable to handle the additional vehicles, leading to traffic congestion and long wait times. This would not only be a safety concern but also a hindrance to emergency services. Moreover, the increased traffic would also result in increased pollution and noise, which would have a significant impact on the health and well-being of our residents. The peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty of the island would be lost, and the quality of life for residents would be severely impacted. We respectfully request that the construction of the hotel be reconsidered and that alternative solutions be sought to address the economic needs of the area. We believe that there are alternative development options that would not result in the negative impacts that a hotel would bring.

• Destruction of Natural Beauty: Increased traffic and the associated infrastructure, such as parking lots and roadways, can impact the natural beauty of an area and result in the loss of green spaces, affecting the turtle population & wildlife habitats.

We urge you to take our concerns into consideration and act in the best interests of the residents of Oak Island by keeping the nostalgic comfort we all enjoy.
