After a significant number of recent animal abuse cases, We, the undersigned are demanding the the State of New York change the penalties for Animal Abuse and Neglect from a misdemeanor to a felony. We also would like for an Abuse Registry to be set up for offenders. This would give people a place to check before adopting out their animal. Such a registry should also be made available to the Animal Shelters and Veterinarians as a tool to keep animals out of the hands of offenders. Please remember, these abusers are the same people who will shift their anger to spouses and children. Save an animal, save a child!
