Should have been public consultation to the very least first. Government has mishandled this.

I am not qualified to say whether the spraying of herbicides like glyphosate is safe or not. I am, however, signing this petition in protest because of the lack of information I have been able to find independently. The practices of industry in the use of monoculture practices are economically driven and seem to be repeatedly shown as short-sighted when it comes to the ecology/environment.
Transparency on such issues, IMO, are important. The announcement by Northern Pulp was vague, did not list the chemicals to be used, or specify the specific regions to be treated. Searching online documentation provided by the province and the NSEL do not yield any documentation on the specific approval, nor could I find what the approval process was and whether or not those potentially affected were made properly aware of the chemicals and their risks and impacts (short and long term).
Something that can cause such wide-spread anxiety should be more publicly broached by the government.

How to be 50 years back in history: spray woodlands --already decimated by clearcutting-- with poison. Do we never learn.

Really, in this day and age there is not another method that could be considered - why destroy the lake waters - please stop this senseless practice!
Stop this from happening!
