The Issue

The recent announcement from Liberty Center High School to move homeroom to the first period of the school day has deeply affected many of us personally. It inhibits students, like myself and others, from having opportunities to work on assignments that were handed out earlier that day.

Homeroom time is fundamental to fostering a strong and effective learning environment. It acts as a buffer for students to manage their academic tasks. Here in Liberty Cente High School, it’s often the only time in the day that students can meet with teachers for clarifications or guidance on assignments. By moving this crucial period to the beginning of the day, it takes away this helping hand from students, who now start their academic day without any preparation time.

Reportedly, the transition of homeroom to first period could affect a significant number of the approximately 400 students who rely on this period for academic management (source: Internal school survey, Liberty Center High School 2021). We urge the school administration to understand the ramifications of such a change and reconsider their decision for the welfare of all students.

Join us in this effort to conserve our homeroom period where it currently stands; sign the petition and make your voice heard.
