Over the years MPs and Councillors have taken this blatant pay rising when we are all being struggling and losing jobs. Disgraceful to even contemplate such a massive percentage pay rise.

This is a disgraceful amount. If they don't like their wage and feel they are not earning enough then leave their will be others willing to step in their shoes. Look what NHS employees are being offered and they do a brilliant job under a great deal of stress. Come on guys be reasonable!

I am shocked at this decision.My husband has had a 1% payrise several years now,our pensions are the lowest in Europe

We should return to the days when it was a privilege to serve on the former County Borough of Tynemouth and the Borough of Whitley Bay councils. Only basic expensives from time off work were paid.
