Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect even if the individual is in authority (imam/scholar) and if one is truly and sincerely regretful, remorseful and seeks forgiveness from Allah and from the public, then may be they should be given another chance to allow themselves to be corrected both spiritually and as a human. We all sin every day and so it would be not very fair in making a big target out of Imam Asim Hussain just because he is/was a man in authority in public domain. Yes, true, we as the general public do expect a certain standard and expectations from our Imams and Scholars and most are law abiding, but some may fall through the net from time to time and may commit mistakes and of course if the allegations are of serious nature, and if necessary these should be consulted and checked into by big scholars/shaykhs and no doubt they ought to put in place any requirements or restrictions on an imam/scholar who has made errors be they small or big mistakes/sins. But if the individual is truly wanting to fix themselves and are repenting, then ("if appropriate and if necessary and if allowed by Islam"), may be their position should be considered for reinstatement but under stricter conditions and close monitoring of course.
