Stop Homeless Camping in Portland

Experiment done! We need another solution.

Screw people that break the law, steal, and do drugs in plain view.

Take back our city, please. I miss being able to picnic with my kids on our bike rides along the Oaks Bottom trail due to all the tents & garbage. I hate having to check the Springwater section that my son uses to get on the Orange line every morning before he leaves. I hate having to eject people from my property every couple months because they feel entitled to sleep wherever they please. I hate the tarp tent sprawl, open air garbage and bicycle 'refurb' that has sprung up along my drive home alongside 99E.

We're not asking for much, just enforce the laws that apply to ALL OF US. When housed citizens break the law, there are consequences. Why do the homeless get special treatment?

It is a disgrace that our city officials completely ignore the homeless including some who are using illegal drugs and are allowed to camp on the sidewalks illegally and frighten our children who sometimes witness uncouth behaviour. Why are our city laws not enforced? I am a tax paying citizen and voter. We need people in our city government who will enforce our laws!

Please include orth Portland in this observation of crime.

The homeless camping in our parks must stop. The trash on the streets, the blatant crime and drug use, cannot be tolerated.

I would like my children to play to our neighborhood park again!

Yes! This is desperately needed. It's possible to help and feel compassion for people whose lives have spun out of control and still not let them take advantage of us and ruin our city. Everyone should be expected to follow the rules, no matter who they are.

The trash, human feces, unusable sidewalks, drug use and resulting plethora of heroin needles, people screaming at all hours of the night, vandalism, theft, menacing behavior and more have gone far beyond out of control.

There is a camp just down the street from my home all the way out in the rose city neighborhood and we have no recourse over all of the noise, violence and trash the camp is bringing into our neighborhood.

I fully support this petition. Please enforce the existing laws!

I think it's worth keeping in mind that Portland would not be the first productive, beautiful city to stand by and watch itself be degraded and lose the qualities that make it an attractive place because of an influx of people who can't or won't support themselves. Reading through these comments illustrates the fear and loathing many of our more productive neighbors are trying to deal with as we watch our beloved city decline.

I live in NE Portland but could not agree more with my SE Portlanders regarding enforcement of the existing camping restrictions.

Quit kicking the can down the road at the citizen expense, city "leaders". Homelessness is a tragedy for those who have lost a job, their home and their family is now on the street. HOWEVER, when the Springwater cleanup reveals over a thousand syringes, bottles and careless trash left by junkies, bike thieves, criminals and numerous young deadbeats who are too lazy to embrace a society where dedication and work reward you for your role in life...it's easier to leach off society and not contribute when Portland has such a reputation for allowing people to park their life in our lawns, parks, sidewalks and neighborhoods. It HAS to stop and treating the situation with kid gloves is clearly not working. Make more beds available for those who want and need them, and compel the rest to leave town.

Camping does not solve the problem!

I bicycle and walk around Portland with my children. We do not feel safe. We have been threatened and intimidated by campers and we have had enough. In addition, visitors to our beautiful city are horrified by the way it has been taken over by homeless campers. Their presence is damaging our local economy. There has got to be a better way to help our homeless community. Please stop homeless camping throughout the city.

They are only there because our city does nothing to enforce our existing laws .What are our tax dollars for? how far do you let the outrage go before the streets become a war zone .Then it will be more costly to fix the problem when we get some real people in charge. Most are bums alcoholics drug addicts and thieves .Its way past time to get rid of them .Its time to get rid of the homeless not try and fix them .Start arresting them they will get the message fast .

Our elected officials have simply failed us all in the handling of this major problem. I am frustrated and have absolutely NO confidence in their abilities to remedy any of this. Leave office and make way for people that can and will enforce our laws, propose solutions and work with communities to implement them. We need elected officials that are supposed to do their job- not bumble and fumble about or ignore their roles.

Please make portland normal - no city "camping". Thank you
