Great idea! Bullying needs to be addressed so that all children can feel safe in their schools. Teachers, security, coaches, administrative personnel, and principals need to be educated on how to handle pupils that are bulling other students. Children should be given workshops in schools, that bullying is not okay or that it is not going to be tolerated. Positive actions must be taken before it escalates and becomes a major problem or a criminal action. When parents send their children to schools, it is to learn, not for their child to be bullied! How can they learn, when a child may be so afraid to attend school, because there may be a trouble maker in their path in school! Also, we must not forget about the bully, what is going on in his/her life, that he/she is taking it out on others. GG

Excellent work here, Mr. Vargas. I am in upstate NY and run a program called Don't Wait to UnMake A Bully where students make their own antibullying PSAs. I have found that kids, many of them on the cusp of knowing right from wrong, desperately seek the mentoring that you have described as important. I support this message!

Education is meant to serve as a means for allowing individuals to advance themselves. That, in turn, supports the American Dream--the inspiration of many that is almost synonymous with hope. There is no place for violence in these institutions, we must fight the violence that plagues these schools.

Humans are all reflections of one another. When students commit acts of violence against one another they are transmitting negative emotions and energy they also feel towards themselves. As friends, parents, community members, and as a city we have to find ways to make sure our youth love themselves so they can love those around them. In Lak Ech' (Mayan Concept that means: You are my other Me).
