Summer vacation, as defined by the Macmillan Dictionary, is "the period of time in the summer when schools, colleges, and universities are closed". That being said, since schools are closed, any work associated with said closed schools should not be done. Summer vacation is a time when families go places to have fun. A time when kids get to sleep in and then when they wake up, spend the whole day in their pajamas. A time when kids can be kids, and hang out with their friends for hours on end. And it's also a time when kids shouldn't be doing homework or summer assignments. Summer vacation should be exactly what it means; a vacation. A time away from the almost everyday non-stop hassle and frustration caused by school and schoolwork. This petition was created to let the School District of South Orange and Maplewood know that enough is enough! Kids of all ages deserve time off from school and it's work so that they can be who they are meant to be during their summer vacation: fun-loving, enthusiastic, and virtually care-free!
